Ride is a training log for horse riders, with an optional social side: riders can follow each other and see each other's logged rides. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, who can see it, and your choices around it.
Account information. An account is required to use the app. When you sign in with Sign in with Apple, we receive a unique identifier for your account and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address. If you use Apple's Hide My Email option, we receive only the private relay address Apple generates — never your real one. We never see or store your Apple password.
Your rider profile. A display name, initials, and a ring colour you pick for yourself; a unique @handle, which the app requires you to choose before you can use it; and, optionally, a short bio and a profile photo.
Your horses. For each horse you add: name, and optionally breed, birth year, discipline, and a photo.
Your rides. For each ride you log: which horse, discipline, duration, optional distance, the date and time, an optional name, any free-text note you write, and an optional photo.
Goals and horse health records. Goals are free text with a progress value. Health records are notes about your horse — soundness, farrier visits, and supplements — with an optional date. These describe the animal, not you; the app does not collect human health data and does not connect to Apple Health.
Show events. Event name, date, an optional location you type in, and discipline. The location field is free text you enter yourself — the app does not access your device's location and requests no location permission.
Photos you choose to add. Profile, horse and ride photos come from your photo library, or from your camera if you choose to take one, only when you ask for them. The app requests photo or camera access from iOS at that moment and receives only the single image you select or take — never your photo library as a whole. Photos are uploaded to our hosted storage. Photos are served from public web addresses: anyone who has the link to an image can open it, without signing in. The links are long and unguessable and are not published anywhere, but treat a photo you upload as something that can be seen outside the app, and don't upload anything you would not want shared.
Who you follow, and who follows you. Following another rider creates a record linking your account to theirs. Follow requests, accepted follows, and follower/following counts are stored on our servers.
Kudos and comments. If you leave kudos or a comment on a ride, that content is stored with your account and is visible to everyone who can see that ride, including the rider who logged it.
Blocks and reports. If you block a rider, we store that pairing so we can enforce it. If you report a rider or a comment, we store the report — what was reported, who reported it, and any reason you give — so a human can review it.
Search. Searching for riders sends the text you type to our servers to match against handles and display names. We do not build a profile of your searches.
We do not collect analytics, advertising identifiers, crash-reporting data, or usage-tracking data of any kind. There is no third-party SDK in the app that observes what you do.
Notifications stay on your device. Ride reminders are scheduled locally by iOS. We do not use push notifications, we do not generate or store a push token, and no reminder information is transmitted anywhere.
Your profile is public by default. Any signed-in rider can find you by handle or name and see your profile and your logged rides, along with the horses, kudos and comments attached to them. You can switch your profile to private at any time in the app, after which only riders whose follow request you have accepted can see that content. Your handle, display name, initials, ring colour and profile photo remain visible either way, so that riders can find you and decide whether to request a follow.
Goals, horse health records and show events are yours alone and are never shown to other riders.
Nobody outside the app sees your data. We do not publish it, sell it, or make it available to search engines — with the single exception of photos, whose public web addresses are described above.
Your data is stored in our hosted database, and photos in our hosted storage, both run by Supabase. The app also keeps a copy on your device of what it needs to work without a signal — your horses, your own recent rides, and the app's reference lists — so that you can log a ride offline; it uploads when you are back online. Other changes, including edits to your profile, horses, goals, health records and events, and anything social, need a connection.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your data to anyone.
Every rider can report a comment or a rider, and can block a rider. A block is enforced on our servers: it removes both follow directions, hides each rider's content from the other, prevents either from following the other again, and removes each from the other's search results.
Reports go to a queue that we review, and we are committed to acting on reports of objectionable content — removing the content, and suspending or removing the responsible account where warranted — within 24 hours of the report. Continued use of the app requires agreeing to the Terms of Use, which prohibit objectionable content and abusive behaviour.
We share data only with the two service providers that make the app work:
Each is contractually bound to provide the same or equal protection of your data as described in this policy, and processes it under its own privacy policy only to the extent needed to provide its service to us. There are no other third parties: no analytics vendor, no advertising network, no AI service.
Other riders are not third parties in this sense — what they can see is described under “Who can see your data”, and it is under your control.
Your data is retained for as long as your account exists.
You can delete your account at any time from within the app: Account → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and everything associated with it — your rider profile and handle, your photos, horses, rides, goals, health records, events, follows, kudos, and comments — from our database and storage. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. Reports you have filed about other riders are also deleted; reports other riders have filed about you may be retained for as long as needed to act on them.
You can also remove the on-device copy at any time by deleting the app.
Ride is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
We may update this policy as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date above.
